- China Telecom will purchase approximately 50 million mobile phones in 2009, of which 20 million will be mobile phones based on CDMA2000 (Code Division Multiple Access 2000) technology, according to Xinhua News reported on February 11, quoting the vice general manager of Tian Yi company under China Telecom, Ma Daojie.

Meanwhile, China Telecom have separately signed a purchase agreement with seven mobile phone makers, from which China Telecom is expected to buy approximately 1.2 million 3G CDMA2000 EV-DO (Evolution-Data Only) mobile phones, Sina News reported on January 16. A total of 39 terminals from 16 companies entered in the tender invited by China Telecom, of which 8 models were based on CDMA2000 EV-Do Rev 0 and 31 models on CDMA2000 EV-DO Rev A. Seven winners of the tender - including Samsung, LG, ZTE, Huawei, Coolpad, Beijing Tianyu Communication Equipment, and Hisense - will provide 14 terminals in total. Samsung will offer four models and acquire 35% of the total tender, according to the same source.

- China Unicom and Huawei made the first video phone call leveraging China Unicom's WCDMA (Wideband CDMA) commercial network in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, the Sohu IT News reported. Aside from Guangzhou, similar phone calls were made in Shanghai and Qingdao.

Additionally, the Huawei-Motorola alliance won the majority share (30.6%) of China Unicom's first-phase WCDMA network equipment bids, following by Ericsson's 26.5%, ZTE's 21.5%, NokiaSiemens' 11.1%, and Alcatel Shanghai Bell's 10.2%.
